Thanks to everyone for a great season. 2013 was a season that fielded 8 competitive teams, fully fielded teams (generally), a great pitch, and overall strengthened league play. Congrats to the Westies and Pups for a very well played and competitive final, with the Pups getting the edge in a nail biter. The level of play in the final and the level of umpiring were both positive indicators of the growing strength of the league.
The final league standings are as follows:
- Silkes and Foxies
Thanks also to Jessica Larson for organizing the Festivus day on Sunday. It was lots of fun and a great party afterwards for those who stuck around. A few bookkeeping items from Sunday:
- Three water bottles were left behind. If you are missing one, let me know,we can arrange a way to get it to you.
- There was a nice brown jacket (Converse) and black sweats (Old Navy) also left behind. Again, if either is yours, we can find a way for you to get your gear.
We have league elections that are pending. Before we post an election, we need to know if anyone else is interested in joining the executive committee. By rule we stagger elections so there is a mix of old and new. We have deviated a bit from that in the last few years, so we will attempt to get back on track in the coming years. So far interested new officers or those changing positions are:
* Was officer last year
Open Seats are President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Marketing Chair, Founders Chair, New Player Chair. For Job descriptions, please see the new Bylaws passed on Sunday (!). As you can see there are more seats available than people interested so chime in now and we will post the official election.
Chairs remaining for another term are:
Umpire Chair: Louise Robinson and Chris Higgs
Youth Chair: Lifon Huynh
Webmaster: Heidi Faith
I highly encourage you to get involved with the league. Whether it is as an officer, a league captain, an umpire, or just a volunteer. Together we can make hockey grow in Northern California and it’s great fun to contribute.
A growing league always has those peripheral unsung heroes that make it tick. Special thanks to the trainers, the umpires, those who stayed behind and picked up the trash on the field, those who came early to water the field, the goalkeepers that stuck around and played all day for other teams, and the fans who cheered us on. We do notice and we do appreciate it.
Happy Holidays and here’s to more great hockey in 2014.
